What is  EPIC Soccer?

The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Everyone Plays in our Community (EPIC) program provides an inclusive, safe, and fun soccer experience for players with physical or neurodiverse special needs. EPIC volunteers are trained to understand the needs and abilities of individual players, providing positive coaching to enhance player experience.

EVERYONE PLAYS!

All individuals aged four and older are welcomed to participate.

EVERYONE PARTICIPATES

The EPIC experience is shared with players, parents, and volunteers. Creating a trusting environment, where trained volunteers dedicate time and effort to get to know the players and communicate with their parents. Providing guidance tailored to each player to advance physical activity with soccer skills, communicating encouragement and empathy. Players participate according to their needs and abilities, encouraged to engage in play, using the soccer ball as an instrument for physical and mental development. The parents of the players are engaged to observe and encourage the field activities, providing assurances and comfort while extending trust to volunteers with their children.

What is an EPIC Buddy?

• The buddy coordinates with the head coach about equipment needs for tailored activities, according to player needs and abilities.
• The buddy provides guidance to players in the field, using verbal and physical directions to encourage field activities.
• The buddy is available to provide physical support according to the needs of the player.
• The buddy monitors players for signs of fatigue, stress, overheating or conditions that compromise their safety.
• The buddy develops a personal relationship with the players, gaining trust and confidence.
• The buddy encourages player initiative while providing guidance and support.
• Davis AYSO provides Community Service credits for its volunteers.
